This weekend, I did something 35 years in the making.
After spending a childhood scared by many things (the bunny hill and rope tow, jumping into the deep end of the swimming pool, getting hit in the face with a softball), I conquered a fear. One-by-one, I've been checking things off my "fear bucket list."
It's quite simple, really. As an adult, I have the ability to tell myself that "this is really safe and my fear isn't rational." But as a kid, I used fear as an excuse. Fear kept me safe from doing things that were uncomfortable or potentially humiliating.
This weekend, I threw caution to the wind and rode a chair lift. I raised a toast to one more thing that was uncomfortable...and I sent it packing. I couldn't be happier that I was rewarded with a safe, smooth trip and celebrated the end with a ride down an alpine side -- and I actually paid for the opportunity to kill this fear.
What's on your "fear bucket list" that you'll tackle this year? How will you celebrate?
